However, there is nothing innovative about combining traditional design with a modernized and simple way of designing fashion. All fashion designs are either traditional, modern, or a combination or both types of design. Another way to describe "combining traditional and modern design" is to say that the dress "combined current fashion with fashion that has already been done."

There is no other especially beautiful or original feature of the Kate Middleton wedding dress besides the lace pattern that contrasted against her skin. Sarah Ferguson's royal wedding dress was much more original. It looked like the kind of wedding dress that would be featured in wedding dreams of young girls. It featured a more dramatic train. The designer just did not get the level of praise that Kate Middleton's wedding gown designer received because it did not look as commercial or as fashion forward.
